At American Veteran Engineering, our Transportation division is a talented team of experts providing full-service planning, design, and construction management services on everything from roadways to airports and utility projects primarily for state, county, and municipal agencies.
Your Opportunity
The Lombard, Illinois and Crown Point, Indiana offices are seeking qualified applicants for a Design Engineer to work as a project team member to support utility design projects for municipalities, private utilities, and other clients in the Chicago metropolitan area. Working on water, sewer, electric, or gas utilities is the primary focus for this position. The successful candidate will work on challenging and diverse tasks in a consulting and design role that will require application of technical skills.
Your role will be to perform utility engineering analyses and calculations including development of engineering plans, specifications, and estimates. The selected candidate will need to be self-directed, capable of independent tasks as well as supporting multidiscipline complex teams, and should demonstrate a passion for involvement in the utility industry with an enthusiasm for successful completion of projects that meet our clients’ need.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Candidate will work under an Engineer or Project Manager.
- Resolve engineering problems and tasks as they are assigned, with help as needed from more experienced staff.
- Perform utility engineering analyses and calculations.
- Develop engineering plans, specifications, and estimates.
- Preparation of reports and feasibility studies.
- Work as part of a team to complete general utility engineering services for municipalities and private utility companies.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Project Manager.
Your Capabilities, Credentials, and Requirements
- Engineer Intern Certification or Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred)
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D (preferred)
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
- Ability to effectively discuss project issues with design team and the client.
- Positive attitude, good energy, and proven passion.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
Education and Experience
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution; technical 2-year degree/diploma/certificate in a related program; or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience on similar projects.
