Lead Civil Engineer

Description

At AVE, we are expanding our civil engineering services and utility engineering group. Our firm provides design, engineering, project management, and inspection services for a wide range of infrastructure and utility projects. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Lead Engineer to help develop our growing team and support transportation and utility design projects for the Illinois Tollway, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and public utility projects in the Chicagoland area and Northwest Indiana.

Your Opportunity

As a Lead, you will play a critical role in not only performing engineering, but also mentoring engineers, organizing project design and engineering assignments, and leading transportation and utility projects. The ideal candidate will have a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois and Indiana, strong leadership skills, and a willingness to engage in the industry and participate in business growth.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and manage project design and engineering tasks.
  • Serve as a Licensed Professional Engineer and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure successful project execution.
  • Perform design, engineering analyses, calculations, and feasibility studies.
  • Develop engineering plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
  • Assist in recruiting and mentoring engineering professionals.
  • Work as part of a team to provide general utility and transportation engineering services for state agencies, counties, and municipalities.
  • Prepare reports and technical documentation as needed.
  • Participate in business development efforts.

Your Capabilities, Credentials, and Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Illinois. Indiana desirable.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and PowerGeopak/OpenRoads Designer (required).
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Projectwise collaboration software skills is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate project issues with design teams and clients.
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and a passion for engineering and business development.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license required.
  • Physically fit for safely accessing client project facilities and worksites including the ability to periodically: safely climb ladders and/or stairs; temporarily handle extreme heat or cold; noisy environments; and be willing to wear PPE associated with proper safety and health.
  • Maintain a valid drivers license in their state of residence.
  • Participate in random drug testing protocol for AVE and our clients.

Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of continuous experience on similar projects.
