Your Opportunity
The Lombard office is seeking qualified applicants for a Construction Inspector to work as a Transportation Construction Management Phase III project team member to support large transportation construction projects for the Illinois Tollway, the Illinois Department of
Transportation (IDOT), and other clients in the Chicago metropolitan area. Working on Tollway construction projects is the primary focus of this position. The successful candidate will work on challenging and diverse tasks in a consulting and construction management role that will require
the application of technical skills.
Your role will be to assist the client and Resident Engineer (RE), to observe and record activities associated with the Contractor’s construction progress in a fast-paced environment. The selected candidate will need to be self-directed, capable of independent tasks as well as supporting multi-discipline complex teams and should demonstrate a passion for involvement in the civil construction industry with an enthusiasm for the successful completion of projects that meet our client’s needs.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, and comprehend all Contract Documents, such as plan drawings, standard drawings, Contractor shop drawings, standard specifications, and project special provisions.
- Perform daily inspection of construction work to ensure compliance with Contract Documents.
- Monitor materials installed by Contractor(s) to ensure compliance with Contract Documents.
- Perform daily documentation of all work Contractor(s) performed as required by Client standards.
- Review Contractor’s shop drawing submittals to ensure compliance with Contract Documents.
- Monitor Contractor installed Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) daily.
- Visit and safely traverse construction and project sites while complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
- Available to work occasional evenings, nights, and weekends when required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Resident Engineer and/or Project Manager.
Your Capabilities, Credentials, and Requirements
- Experience using Tollway eBuilder and IDOT’s CMMS system is preferred.
- Certificate for the IDOT Documentation of Contract Quantities is preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Demonstrates proficiency in all competencies of previous job level.
- The Construction Inspector will work in the field at a project site as needed. The applicant will be required to work in a manner that ensures personal safety as well as the safety of fellow employees by following project and company health and safety guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.
- Understand and interpret contract documents for a designated Work Package for a specific construction activity.
- Ability to effectively discuss project issues with the phase III team and the client.
- Positive attitude, good energy, and proven passion.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
Education and Experience
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management; technical 2-year degree/diploma/certificate in a related program; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Prefer a degree in construction management or a professional discipline-specific field from an accredited institution.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience
- Illinois Tollway and IDOT experience is a plus.
